King of the Mountain Bike Race - 2004

On Sunday, October 3, 2004 Habitat for Humanity of Clearfield County held the "King of the Mountain" bike race. The race began at the Lawrence Township Fire Company No. 1 on Mill Road. The participants would ride west on Route 322 to the top of Rockton Mountain. They would climb 1000 feet in the five mile race to the summit. The above photo shows a rider crossing the finish line.

The winner of the men's and women's classes were both awarded a "King of the Mountain" vest shown on the right.

Five, four, three, two, one, GO! This photo shows a rider taking the starter's command and beginning the race up the mountain.
This racer has just left the starting ramp and is pacing himself as he approaches the start of the climb.

After a long climb this rider is just about to the top. The valley where the race began can be seen in the background.
As these two racers approach the top, they can almost see the finish line just a few hundred yards ahead.

It would hardly be a race without a photo finish. These two riders give it their all to cross the line first.
